By and for Daiwa Scholars, past present and future.
Recent events: Daiwa Scholars 2005 Farewell Reception DSAA Summer Matsuri Welcome to the Daiwa Scholarship Alumni Association. This site gives information about the activities, experiences and aims of the ever-increasing group of past Daiwa Scholars. We are grateful to The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation for their support in establishing this Association and this site. The site serves to maintain contacts and the exchange of news and ideas between the ex-scholars, to provide a link with this group for those currently on the scholarship, and to give an insight to the experiences and opportunities of the Daiwa Scholarship for potential applicants. The Daiwa Scholarship Alumni Association (DSAA) was formed in 2001 in response to a need for an autonomous and active focus for the large number of former scholars. A committee has been formed to take responsibility for maintaining this unique network of diverse individuals, who share the common experience of an intensive immersion in modern Japan. The committee initiates activities to further the aims of the Scholarship, raising the profile of the scholarship through disseminating information about the Alumni and their experiences. It organises visits to Universities from Alumni to increase the awareness of potential applicants. Regular social events are held each year, including a reception for new scholars prior to their departure, and a forum for ideas and comments on the format and success of the scholarship. The DSAA is represented on the committee of the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation for selection of new Scholars. In future it is planned to hold seminars of particular relevance to the Alumni's professional interests with the aim of nurturing existing specialist contacts and fostering a new generation of interchange between British and Japanese professions and culture. Ultimately the DSAA's activities aim to assist in channelling the significant expertise and knowledge of Japan that the Alumni embody towards an increasingly fertile and varied dialogue between Britain and Japan. The establishment of the committee and this site are the first steps in this task. Whether an ex-scholar, a current scholar in Tokyo, or a future applicant, we hope you find the insight into the experiences of the Alumni presented here helpful and stimulating.
